For privacy law that asks for a "data controller," that is La Hacienda LLC.
This is the core of how FrameDrop is built:
Because the heavy lifting is local, there is no server that could leak, lose, or be subpoenaed for your footage. There simply isn't a copy.
The browser app asks for an email once, at your first export, and the landing page offers a waitlist signup. These are optional and processed by Formspree (our form processor). When you submit, we receive your email plus minimal technical context (the page URL, your browser's user-agent, and viewport size) to help us debug and segment signups. We use this only to send you product updates and respond to you. Legal basis: your consent.
We use Plausible Analytics on framedrop.video. Plausible is privacy-first: no cookies, no cross-site tracking, no personal data. It records aggregate, anonymized events (e.g. page views, which download button was clicked) and does not build profiles of individuals. Data is processed in the EU. You can read Plausible's data policy.
The app keeps your preferences and session locally in your browser's localStorage (theme, layout, language, presets, whether you've already given your email). This stays on your device, is not transmitted to us, and you can clear it any time via your browser.
The Mac app periodically fetches a small version manifest from framedrop.video/updates.json to tell you when a new version exists. This is an ordinary web request — like loading a page, our server sees your IP address and request time in its logs — but the app does not send us your usage, your files, or any telemetry payload.
If the Mac app hits an error, it may offer to send a crash report. Nothing is sent automatically. If you choose to send, the report is opened in your own email client for you to review and send to us — you see exactly what's included before it leaves your machine, and you can decline. We use crash reports only to fix bugs.
If you buy the Mac app, the app sends your license key and the product identifier to Gumroad to confirm your purchase and count device activations (up to a small limit). The result (your key, activation status, and the email tied to the purchase) is stored locally on your device in a license.json file so the app keeps working offline; it re-checks roughly every 30 days when online. We don't run our own license server.
Payments are handled by Gumroad as the merchant of record. Gumroad collects the information needed to process your purchase (name, email, payment details, and location for tax) under Gumroad's own privacy policy. We receive only what Gumroad shares with sellers — typically your email, order number, and product — not your full card details.
framedrop.video is hosted on Netlify, which keeps standard server logs (IP address, user-agent, timestamps) for security and operations. Fonts are self-hosted, so simply loading the site makes no third-party requests. The browser app loads two code libraries — for in-browser MOV conversion and ZIP export — from a public CDN only on demand, i.e. only if you actually convert a MOV or build a ZIP, never on page load. The Mac app does even that locally and makes no such call.

Only to: run and improve FrameDrop, send updates you asked for, verify paid licenses, fix crashes, and keep the site secure. We do not sell or rent your personal information, do not use it for advertising, and do not share it except with the sub-processors above or where required by law.
We keep your email until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Analytics are aggregate and not tied to you. License data lives on your device for as long as the app is installed. Crash reports you choose to send are kept only as long as needed to fix the issue.
All site and app network traffic uses HTTPS/TLS. The single biggest security control is architectural: your video content is processed locally and never stored on our servers, so it cannot be breached from us. The Mac app is code-signed with a Developer ID certificate and notarized by Apple. No system is perfectly secure, but we practice data minimization — the safest data is the data we never collect.
Depending on where you live (including the EU/UK under GDPR and California under the CCPA/CPRA), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, to opt out of certain processing, and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. To exercise any of them, email gonz@lahacienda.media and we'll respond within the time the law requires.
California notice: we do not and will not sell or "share" (as the CPRA defines it) your personal information.
We're based in the United States and our processors may handle data in the US and EU. By using FrameDrop you understand your information may be processed in these locations under this policy.
FrameDrop is a professional tool not directed to children, and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we'll delete it.
If we change this policy we'll update the date above and, for material changes, note it on framedrop.video. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated policy.
